Minister of export development and international Trade Prof G. L. Peiris said that Sri Lanka has a very bright future in export; we must export our talent to the world.
“There is a great demand for craftsmen and skill labuor in the Middle East countries, especially Dubai, Doha and Qatar where the construction industry is growing fast. Hence we should tap this market”, he said.
He made these observations at the unveiling of the holding of Excon 2007(Exposition for the Domestic Construction Industry), Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka (CCI) President said they planned to hold construction industry exhibition at BMICH and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorials Exhibition Hall from 11th to 13th May 2007.
He also said that the proposed exhibition would be able to attract around 200 participants belonging to the construction industry.
The Minister of Construction and Engineering DR. Rajitha Senratne assured the participants and CCI president to solve their problems, as and when they face and discuss the same with his ministry.
The CCI president hoped that the CCI being an Apex body representing every stake holders of the construction industry is confident that Excon 2007 will accrue substantial benefits to the domestic construction industry. Excon 2007 has been designed to promote linkages among the stakeholders to facilitate enhancement of capacities and competitiveness of the domestic construction industry.
Chamber’s initiatives in the recent past have been targeted to eliminate industry growth impediments.
CCI has taken a lead role in the training of craftsmen and the development of small and medium enterprises in the construction industry in addition to facilitating public private partnerships in infrastructure development and construction related projects.
The prominent presence at this trade fair will undoubtedly enhance participant’s visibility to all sectors of the construction industry while promoting their products and services to the target market.
During the trade fair a number of concurrent events such as seminars, workshops and cocktail receptions are being planned providing opportunities for interaction among participants/ stakeholders.
