According to CMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam one thousand volunteers went on a house to house check of the gardens covering some 11,085 houses during the past few days.
He said that contrary to speculation this campaign would not be called off.
He added that the CMC had warned over 366 households found with mosquito breeding places in their gardens.
Dr. Kariyawsam said one of the major activities under the Green Star home project was resorting to legal action on households found with mosquito breeding places. He explained that such householders would be initially warned and if such warnings were not heeded they would be penalized under the newly enacted Mosquito Prevention Act.
“We will also go to Central and North Colombo and will check the residences and also conduct awareness programmes,” he said.
He added that the other activities under the project were shramadana campaigns, creating buffer zones around schools, competitions in schools and the ‘No to Dengue and Chikungunya’ Walk on May 11.
