Nawaloka Heart Center beats well

Nawaloka Hospitals last week recapped the host of achievements of its Heart Centre and said it has grown in success.
General Manager of Nawaloka Hospital Professor Chandaresena said that the Heart Center has achieved highs in heart surgeries since its inception on August 12, 1994. He said that since the starting of the first private sector Cardiac center in Sri Lanka, the Heart Center is proud about their expert Cardiologists to perform the first Coronary Angiogram to the first PTCA of Left Main coronary artery in Sri Lanka.
“The Heart Center is having good machinery and personnel to deal with all situations and many cases rejected by other places, as they are perceived to be high risk, are performed here”, he said.
The Heart center is also first in Sri Lanka to do Beating Heart Surgery using "Octopus", to use Radial Artery (Artery of the Hand) and Right Gastro-epiploeic artery (Artery of Stomach) for Bypass operations.
The hospital has done over 12,000 Angiograms and nearly 7000 Open Heart Surgeries up to now, with the latest equipments. The Nawloka Heart Center, the latest Philips Allura Flat Detector Cardiac catheterization Laboratory with Stent Boost, Physiomonitoring is installed. The latest Terumo Advanced Perfusion System 1 and the latest Data scope one-button start-up IABP machine are also the new arrivals to this advanced Heart Center in Sri Lanka.
Professor Chandaresena said that currently more than 98% of bypass surgeries are performed without stopping the heart and without using the heart lung machine, using a device called the Octopus Tissue Stabilizer and we have the latest of the kind- OCTOPUS Evolution.
The Regional Manager-sales southern Region Medical Systems of Philips Electronics India, B. Umasankar said that, Philips creates 3d views from 2d images helps to assess optimal working/viewing angles and accurate lesion length thereby overcoming the inherent limitation in 2d imaging.
He said that the unique system design improves efficiency, enhances safety and optimizes workflow of the patient and staff. Superb image quality improves the clinical outcome, while advanced dose reduction measures ensure least patient dose, he added.Advanced imaging, processing and qualification tools helps the cardiologist see more details from multiple views to have a deeper understanding which in turn improves patient care through better treatment planning and intervention, he further explained. Meanwhile the Galladari Manager Sampatah Sriwardane said that they are associated with Navaloka hospital from the beginning and will be with them in future as well.

Mehar Mohammad Khalil: A hero across borders

Today he is being hailed as a lifesaver after he drove the bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricketers to safety, through a hail of gunfire on Tuesday.Khalil, the bus driver who saved the lives of the Sri Lankan cricket team during the terror attack is now considered a big hero in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Khalil kept a cool head and drove the bus to safety when it came under gunfire, grenade and rocket attack from terrorists. His routine while the visiting team was in Pakistan was to get up at 6 in the morning, and take the team daily from the hotel to the stadium.
